Pongracz Desiderius South African Sparkling Wine 2003 is named in honour of a member of the Hungarian aristocracy. Desiderius Pongracz was a prisoner of war and later using his aristocratic connections relocated to Namibia after securing the position of farm manager. He moved to Stellenbosch in 1958, where he was again a farm manager before obtaining his
Master of Science Degree in Agriculture at the University of Stellenbosch.
He was extremely influential in shaping the South African wine industry, promoting plantings of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc amongst others.
The Sparkling wine is made in the traditional method and is a handcrafted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blend made from two selected blocks in the Stellenbosch region.
Matured for 7 years, exceptionally elegant and developed.
